Lux Jewels - a minimal designed jewellery store

Situated in the bustling trade town of Rajkot, the jewellery shop is located along a busy road edge of Amin Marg. As the name suggests, Lux is meant to be a premium place to buy gold jewellery; a destination to buy all things gold.

The shop is a rectangular cuboid with limited space. For this, the architect had to be sensitive towards maximising the space usage, using a minimal palette such that the end result is a vibrant, inviting space. One of the first interventions thought of, is incorporating a vault for the ceiling.

The design of the vault has a two-fold function- it lengthens the space dimensions, making it seem larger than it actually is; and also, reflects light to the display cases placed below it, creating a central focus for the space. Thus, an axis is created, in which other elements of interior design could be placed. The form of the vault also becomes the basis for developing the form of the arch as another element of interior design, for the display units of the jewels.

For the color palette, an aesthetic mood board is created by using the contrasting colours of warm peach and deep peacock blue. The former is meant to invoke a feeling of comfort and youthfulness, while the latter is to lend a luxurious, bold feel to the space. Peach is a combination of orange, yellow & white; its metallic equivalents being gold, copper and silver, an ideal expression for a jewellery shop. These colours are complemented with gold accented hardware, resulting in an opulent look. Textures are kept subdued, such that the colours & aspects of design are enhanced.

The furniture is kept minimal, optimally using the space. The chairs are furnished with velvet cloth in the same peacock blue to complement the overall design and bring it together homogeneously.

Other aspects of design include gold highlighted mirrors and display units, which adds to the color scheme. The mirrors follow the curves, derived from the arch & vault design, while the display units are kept straight-edged; adding one more element of contrast while viewing the space in entirety. The main lighting fixtures, also done up in gold, are kept tiltable such that it can highlight the jewellery as well as the space, aided by the vault design. The architect was also responsible for the design of a brand logo. They chose the geometry of the arch to as the basis of the emergent logo design for the brand.
