A precedent for compact housing, this ecologically minded dwelling concept in Austria by MWArchitekten comprises two 125 square meter houses and two carports. The facade here is simple and modern yet based on the atmospheric qualities of traditional structures.
Semi-detached, the house fits carefully into its natural terrain. The architects made skillful use of the hillside without great need for earthworks. Inside, the hillside is noticeably steeper towards the living room and the terrace.
The sensitivity of the house can be experienced both in the space-efficient use of floor areas as well as in the execution of materialization and details. In particular, the specification of local wood and surface are not only ecologically sensitive but also highlight local building products and entrepreneurs.
The house is completed in a timber frame and insulated with cellulose. The compact volume, as well as the three-storey volume with minimum room height, result in an excellent energy balance. Low energy, the house is heated by a geothermal pump and further, there is a fully programmable skylight at the highest point of the staircase, providing fresh air and night cooling.
