Featuring clean, sleek lines, the FdP house integrates into Alentejo’s landscape by incorporating materials such as Kebony wood, which blends with the surrounding native colours and complements the morphology of the natural landscape.

Architect Gonçalo Bonniz explains that chromatic integration was a key concept of the design. Alongside Kebony wood, materials used to achieve chromatic harmony include multicoloured slate in shades of grey and brown and concrete with a grey pigment.

Defined by a dark brown colour that, over time, will acquire a beautiful silver-grey patina when exposed to the elements, Kebony wood is low-maintenance and sustainably sourced. The wood requires no further surface treatment or maintenance, an important material property in response to the harsh climate of the area.

In addition to its use on the exterior façade and deck, Kebony wood is also specified for the furniture in the house, including the kitchen area, wardrobes, and for the doors that measure more than 3-meters in height.
