Holiland 1992 Concept Store deviates from style-driven design towards a concept that embraces history and materiality

In Chengdu, Kuanzhai Alley is known for its historic architecture and for being a last relic of Chengdu. Alongside this, the alley has also over the years embraced contemporary trends with a view towards the future.

Set in the heart of Kuanzhai Alley, Holiland 1992 Concept Store by Some Thoughts is designed to pay tribute to the surrounding traditional building fabric while incorporating contemporary design methods that are reflective of the brand and its past decade of development.

In finalizing the concept, Some Thoughts explain that they deviated from a style-driven design towards a concept that pursues a relationship between form and material.

Glass tiles act as a filter to introduce light, which compliments the roughness of materials in the entire space. A sense of ever-changing juxtaposition is presented to visitors as they experience the refraction and diffusion of light in space.

Visitors are guided through the traditional and contemporary in a carefully choreographed space, where the interior design represents a certain emotional context, and introduces a perceptible space to the public.
