Townhouse dynamically transformed into a collection of city rooms

Housing a family of five, this home in the historic center of Leuven has been transformed by architects 51N4E into a collection of connected spaces that transition from public to private, much like the fabric of a city itself.

The streetside room serves as a vestibule, a reception plus storage room. The garden is an open air room with green walls and oversized water elements. A small adjoining brick shed is reached through a secret staircase.

The rooms are each unique and highly contrasting in their characters: very big, high and bright spaces and smaller, intimate adjoining spaces. Each room is further carefully defined by materials and selection of building elements: a floating glass-roof, a thin concrete staircase, a terrazzo floor slab, a green earth wall, a feature sliding window.
