DEMA Engineering developed the 591 Diverter valve to be an easy means of directing tempered water to a wall mounted chemical dispenser. The unit is mounted on the end of the faucet spout by using the aerator threads. Part of the design concept was to have a built in pressure indicator (pressure bleeding device ASSE 1055 section 3.1.2). In this case the indicator is a stream of water, which sprays into the sink from the bottom of the Diverter valve body, whenever it is activated.
The operator turns on the water flow by using the existing valves on the faucet body. The operator activates the Diverter by pulling a spring-loaded lever on the Diverter body. This action diverts the main stream of water flow to the chemical dispenser mounted on the wall. Back-pressure created by the back flow preventer in the chemical dispenser forces water out a pilot hole in the bottom of the Diverter body, which creates the water spray into the sink. When the water flow is turned off, the pressure in the line going to the dispenser dissipates through the nozzle in the dispenser and through the pilot hole in the Diverter body. The spring-loaded lever automatically resets its self to the normal water flow position.
