Metolius Ridge Artisan Tile makes custom, made to order, hand-painted tile. Each piece is hand-drawn, hand glazed, and fired.
Inspired by antique kimono textiles and world travels, owner Justyn Livingston, synthesizes patterns and shapes into Metolius' style and compositions. Early 14th-17th century Japanese Tsujigahana textiles mixed patterns in a simple manner in their traditional kimono and decorative fabrics. The mural below includes reinterpreted symbols of the sun and crescent moon for a custom back splash (behind the stove/sink area). For this kind of custom job, Metolius cuts, grinds and finishes each tile to fit specific installations before crafting the final composition.
