ROOF LANTERNS & ROOFLIGHTS

A small, dark or uninteresting area can be transformed by the introduction of a rooflight or roof lantern. A great sense of space is achieved by the influx of light into the room enhanced by the addition of this architectural feature. Whilst glass lanterns and rooflights tend to be designed to provide a stylish focal feature, there are those who will consider a simple rooflight for their room as being less obtrusive than incorporating windows, and they will also recognise that they will offer greater flexibility when designing a room's general aesthetics.

Rooflights and roof lanterns can be built to any size and shape and whilst they tend to take the standard rectangular form, octagons, hexagons and pyramids are not uncommon although they do pose issues when it comes to incorporating ventilation.

Each and every Vale rooflight and lantern will incorporate our signature roof system with the aluminium skeletal core, clad with decorative mouldings and profiles, thus offering a maintenance free exterior and attractive interior. They can be detailed internally in many different styles, whether it be contemporary or traditional, frequently incorporating inverted finials and the facility to suspend a pendant light. In certain cases, our rooflights will include some form of decorative panelling to the internal up-stand beneath the roof lantern which can prove very effective.

Rooflights are generally positioned directly onto a prepared up-stand and we will work closely with your builder or architect to make sure that the correct platform is created. This makes installation a quick and easy process.

If you are requiring a rooflight or lantern within a kitchen area or other busy room, you will probably need to incorporate some form of ventilation. This can usually be achieved by including traditional glazed roof vents which can be either manually or thermostatically controlled, depending on location and accessibility.

Lanterns are essentially a rooflight that include an element of vertical glazed framework, usually including fixed and opening panels, but these can also be directly glazed. If panelled, it will be generally the side framework that incorporates the ventilation with either manual or thermostatically controlled opening panels.
