Staircase 004 is the central element of a comprehensive interior design for the management floor of fischerAppelt PR- and Marketing agency in Hamburg/ Germany. Conceived as a meeting place or a marketplace of ideas, the aim was to create a cocktail of different styles, a charming collection coupled with the necessary gravitas of an aesthetic design: a combination of "finds" and designed objects like staircase 004 presented here. The centrepiece of the floor is an area combining a bar/kitchen, terraced seating, cupboards and display cases, and the staircase in a mix of materials: concrete, larch and raw steel. At its heart is the staircase, consisting of 10 untreated, somewhat rusty U-shaped strips of 15 mm steel, bolted into the supporting structure. The components are identical and differ only in height. This single-flight straight staircase is astonishingly simple. It fits in well with the beamed construction of the recently completed building and appears to project downwards from the roof garden situated above.
