Located on the southern edge of one of the most important public open spaces in the City, this hotel is the conversion of an existing modernist office tower. While the relatively small and irregularly shaped floor plate (with an open air atrium) was a poor fit for a contemporary office setting, it is perfect fit for a 110-key boutique hotel. By closing in the atrium with a triangular skylight, and opening up the inward facing corridors, the ground floor becomes activated as a guest amenity (ie. Bar/cafe/lounge) visually and physiclally connected to the circle. And while the horizontal site connections are remarkable, perhaps the most unique set of connections occur in section, from a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views across the City, to a subterranean day spa/bath complex which will inform the hotel branding.
