Perched in Kingfisher Towers, high above Bengaluru’s lively pace, where the skyline meets the rustle of trees, it stands as a serene retreat in the clouds. Anchored in modernist ideals, it follows the principle that form follows function, yet exudes a natural warmth where light, texture, and materiality intertwine to craft an intimate story of home.
When Kumar was commissioned to design a young couple’s residence, two aspects immediately caught her attention: the vast scale and abundant natural light streaming through the high ceilings and large windows overlooking Cubbon Park, and the genuine warmth and collaborative approach of her clients. Together, they imagined a home that was modern, minimalist, and boldly experimental. The vision called for a refined interpretation of minimalism, one that merged global craftsmanship with exceptional local artistry.
Conceived with clarity and calm in mind, the home is defined by clean lines, open expanses, and a meditative simplicity. Each space breathes ease—uncluttered and intentional. Here, materiality takes precedence over adornment. “Colour and pattern are no longer the focus,” notes Kumar. “We instead highlight proportion, the language of materials, and the intimacy of hand-finished details.”
In this space, elegance has purpose. The entry leads into a luminous anteroom, a gentle introduction to what follows. Beyond fluted glass lies the open-plan living area, shaped by organic geometries. “The clients wanted refinement without excess,” Kumar explains. Kumar assembled a thoughtful blend of international and Indian design pieces. Minotti, Molteni & C, Roche Bobois, and Giorgetti harmonize with works by Pinakin, Hatsu, and SAR Design Studio. The outcome is a home that balances restraint with vibrancy, simplicity with statement, creating an interplay of contrasts that feels effortlessly refined.
“Minimal palettes succeed when every object is intentional,” Kumar reflects. It’s about reducing a space to its core. “When colour schemes are subtle, the pieces within them must hold meaning—you curate with attention, valuing quality over quantity.” She further shares, “Throughout the home, concealed storage integrates seamlessly into the architecture, a quiet reflection of thoughtful spatial design.”
