Padmaja Kumari Parmar, the daughter of House of Mewar, upholds the legacy of one of the world's oldest dynasties, established in 734 A.D. in Udaipur, Rajasthan India. Her multifaceted philanthropic contributions span cultural preservation, healthcare, and education, with a focus on women's empowerment. Along with her husband Dr. Kush Parmar, a physician, science entrepreneur and an investor, who shares a similar heritage as his wife but grew up in Mexico. His passion for art, pattern and bold color is in sync with the duality of both cultures. When it came to reimagining their 1920’s brick Georgian style home set on 2.61 acres of lush grounds, the direction was personal as their global endeavors. We see jewel tones that enrich the interiors, Hi-gloss surfaces, complemented by handpicked fabrics and wall coverings that echo the spirit of their heritage.

The home has great architectural bones. Building on that strong base we renovated and expanded several parts of the home. For example, the main request was a serene spa bath and an updated the primary suite. The spa bath is a white-on-white space punctuated by an accent wall, we sourced and designed custom ‘Makrana’ marble tile (quarried in their home state of Rajasthan) and inlaid with intricate mirrors in a pattern that is inspired by the traditional mandala patterns of Rajasthan which are called ‘Mandana,’.

Additionally, we extended the formal living room by enclosing the existing covered porch, creating an all-season space with expansive windows that seamlessly blend indoor comfort with the outdoors. We added a fireplace in this space cladding it with a striking ribbed Lilly Lavender stone, offering a dynamic textured center point. This is beautifully accented by the custom flooring design in a classic heritage pattern of the diamond trellis with a mosaic herring-bone border and mosaic diagonal dots in the same matching stone, is familiar and loved by the clients.

For the décor we pulled colors from the clients existing art collection and selected luxe finishes and materials. Bold colors and patterns of fabrics and wall coverings are inspired from both Indian and Mexican heritage Metallic gold woven wallcovering, and other details bring the spaces alive. For example, the Formal Dining Room is an experience of bold color, pattern and texture with the gilded gold ceiling, the walls in glossy blue painted paneling and elephant motif wall covering which is layered with contemporary art. A collection of exquisite hand-crafted Talavera Pottery from Mexico is displayed in the cabinet.

Seamlessly tying their home to the grandeur of their ancestry, the curated collection of artworks throughout the home, including family heirlooms, we created a space that is as much a personal retreat as it is a tribute to the legacy they passionately uphold. Through their diverse roles, the Parmar’s have demonstrated a blend of cultural stewardship, modern leadership, and global advocacy, embodying the progressive vision of the family’s heritage which is reflected in their home.
