Design Brief
ACCOMMODATION SCHEDULE:- 1. A project brief and sketch proposal project will comprise of the following facilities:- • Purpose designed gallery with a special exhibition hall directly linked to public facilities such as restaurant, bars etc. • A fully integrated outdoor flea market with an amphitheatre for performing live stage shows as traditional wrestling. • An integrated set of workshops for artist to train and execute artwork with a retail outlet for direct sale to the public. • Office accommodation for staff with an integrated archive for storage of artifacts. • 14 retail units to accommodate different African restaurant/kitchens. • 250 car parking bays.
2. Site investigation studies to be conducted to determine the best-suited site in Abuja. A minimum site area of 4 hectares will accommodate all proposed facilities.
3. Feasibility study to assess and determine the financial viability and feasibility of the project.
Design Proposals
THE MAIN DESIGN THEME IS THE USE OF AN AFRICAN ELEPHANT TUSK AS THE MAIN FEATURE. NATURAL MATERIALS SUCH AS STONE CLADDING, MUD WALLS , LOGS OF WOOD, WOOD ROOF SHINGLES, HAVE BEEN INTEGRATED AS FINISHES TO BUILDINGS TO PRODUCE A NATURAL AFRICAN OUTLOOK. THE AFRICAN OPTION THEME IS THE USE OF A SPEAR AS THE MAIN FEATURE WITH THATCH ROOFS AND MUD WALLS. 1- THE MAIN BUILDING a- A 850 sqm. building on four floors total area of 3,400 sqm. with a central glazed dome atrium with vertical circulation. b- The ground floor will comprise of exhibition halls, shops, bars and restaurants linked to the outdoor amphitheater and auditorium. c- 1st,2nd,and 3rd floor offices and archives. d- Roof top deck with restaurant and bars. 2- ANCILLARY BUILDINGS a- A 350 sqm. auditorium with upper galleries, roof top restaurant and bar designed to seat up to 1000 people . b- A 600 sqm. artist workshop building with an integral outdoor retail area. c- Outdoor amphitheater and flea market for outdoor live entertainment and games i.e wrestling. d- A public plaza landscaped with plants and a water features. e- 14 x 135 sqm different African restaurants facing the public plaza with separate kitchens.
