Known as South Australia’s first vertical school, Adelaide Botanic High School opened its class-room doors in 2019. A conversion of an existing 1960’s building, the project presented an opportunity to demonstrate the latest thinking in design pedagogy and advance a more innovative approach to education in SA.
The school is deeply integrated into an established education and cultural precinct in the north-east corner of Adelaide’s city, set within the parklands and adjacent to the Botanic Garden, Zoo, universities and Frome Road.
Botanic High locates a STEM focused and contemporary schooling experience in a beautiful parkland setting, combining science with nature. It creates a multi-disciplinary vertical learning environment that allows a high degree of visual and physical connectivity between floors. The school’s active atrium which sit sin the heart of the building allows for collaborative opportunities not available in traditional school settings.
