Adidas company's largest store worldwide and brand flagship celebrates creativity and sport using the new stadium retail concept. A tunnel entrance, stands for live-game viewing on big screens, locker rooms in place of dressing rooms, and track and field areas where consumers can test products are the top features. The design team prioritized sustainability by maintaining the building’s existing textures and finishes, which reduced the demand for new materials. Amenities include fitness consultations from EXOS trainers, a juice bar, concierge desk, and same-day delivery. The project has won numerous awards in the retail sector including SARA National Award, Retail Week Interiors Award, Best Retail Store Design MAPIC Award and Innovation by Design Award.
A sense of movement is established at the store’s entrance, where visitors enter a square tunnel with dramatic up-lighting embedded in the floor, and a compressed space opens into the expansive ground floor. Materials like polished and board-formed concrete, steel and chain-link, and exposed ducts and conduits give the space its toughness or utilitarian sense experienced in a stadium. The exterior façade of the project required a single-skin noncombustible material that was lightweight, with a physical texture and warmth. Pure + FreeForm created a finish with exterior-grade texture, called Urban Cement, which yielded a matte surface while imparting a tactile experience.
