The new Allianz Park Stuttgart, located in the south of the Baden-Württemberg state capital, is a prime example of climate-sensitive contemporary office architecture.
For one of the world’s largest insurers, Allianz, a new office campus has been created that combines a climate-conscious design approach with reimagined working environments.

The new Allianz Park Stuttgart, located in the south of the Baden-Württemberg state capital, is a prime example of climate-sensitive contemporary office architecture.

A nearly 100-year-old oak tree serves as the anchor point, marking the central main entrance — the Plaza. Together with a prominent 17-storey high-rise, several organically shaped, lower buildings are grouped within a permeable landscaped setting.
This open plaza layout integrates Allianz Park seamlessly into the city’s natural environment.

Design

The building volumes, connected on the ground and first floors, blend naturally into their surroundings. With their rounded floor plans, they form both an architectural unity and an organic network.

The characteristic horizontal balustrades of the glass façade ensure unobstructed air circulation, maintaining Stuttgart’s important fresh-air corridor across what was previously an undeveloped sports and green area.

At the conceptual centre lies the Plaza — a light-filled reception hall covered by a large glass dome. It serves both as the main access point to the various functional areas and as a venue for events. Through the glass vault, visitors can visually connect to the surrounding buildings, making orientation within Allianz Park intuitive.

The lower buildings feature green courtyards, extending the surrounding landscape into the heart of the campus.
On the 16th floor, the Sky Lounge offers a panoramic event space with sweeping views over Stuttgart and its surroundings.

Climate Sensitivity and Sustainability

A key aspect of the Allianz Park design is its positive impact on the city’s microclimate.
Vaihingen, the district in which the site is located, plays an important role in Stuttgart’s climatic system, as it channels cool air from the surrounding hills into the city centre.

Due to Stuttgart’s basin topography and a height difference of around 300 metres between the city centre and outskirts, the city often experiences low wind speeds and heavy air.

The Allianz Park concept responds to these conditions through several design decisions:

·         multiple buildings of varying heights instead of one compact mass,

·         rounded building forms,

·         staggered placement of the volumes to maintain unimpeded airflow toward the city centre.

The project implements a comprehensive sustainability concept and will be certified DGNB Platinum.
Photovoltaic systems are installed on the roofs, geothermal energy is used for heating and cooling, and concrete core activation contributes to indoor climate control.

Allianz Group’s operations have been climate-neutral since 2012, with its carbon footprint certified annually.

New Working Environments

Multifunctionality, efficiency, and transparency define the hybrid working environments at Allianz Park Stuttgart.
Employees have access to open office areas with desk-sharing options, as well as alternative workspaces in the staff restaurant and Working Café.

Dedicated areas for quiet phone calls, various meeting rooms, and focus zones for concentrated work complement the agile office concept. Informal communication areas with a lounge character encourage collaboration and exchange.

In total, the climate-sensitive Allianz Park Stuttgart provides workspaces for around 4,500 employees.

Urban and Social Connectivity

A key factor for Allianz was a well-connected location.
The site offers excellent access to public transport as well as pedestrian and cycling routes. Many employees — previously spread across different locations in Stuttgart — now commute by bus, train, bicycle, or on foot.

This enables climate-friendly commuting while promoting employee health.
Both cyclists and drivers have access to a parking garage with e-charging stations.

The three-court sports hall on site is also available for use by local sports clubs, reflecting Allianz’s social responsibility and community engagement.
