Alton Road Residence is a two-story single-family home in Miami Beach, Florida, conceived as a study in volumetric contrast and material restraint. The composition pairs a cantilevered upper volume in white stucco with a grounded base wrapped in horizontal travertine, creating a deliberate dialogue between weight and lightness.
Large-format impact-rated glazing is recessed into the facade, framing tropical views while reinforcing the orthogonal geometry. The cantilever shades the entry sequence and softens the transition between the street and the interior, a direct response to Miami Beach's intense solar exposure and dense residential context.
Material selection prioritizes durability against the coastal environment without compromising the project's modernist language. Travertine cladding, integrated landscape, and a continuous datum line across both volumes anchor the home within its lot while allowing the upper volume to read as a distinct sculptural element.
Inside, an open-plan ground floor connects the living, dining, and kitchen areas through full-height glazing that dissolves the threshold between interior and rear terrace. A lap pool extends the architectural geometry into the landscape, framed by tropical planting that contrasts the home's restrained material palette.
The project reflects Atelier International's ongoing exploration of contemporary tropical modernism, balancing climatic performance with formal clarity in South Florida's evolving residential landscape.
