The relocation of Avalara's corporate headquarters from the West Coast to Durham marked more than a change of address, and no element captures that transformation better than the tiki bar. A longtime staple at industry events, the tiki bar has become the anchor of the new headquarters, a recognizable symbol of Avalara's entrepreneurial spirit and welcoming culture. Now permanently rooted at 512 S. Mangum Street, Level 01 has been reimagined as a hospitality-forward destination complete with views of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, honoring where Avalara began while welcoming the employees and guests who will define what comes next.

The project involved a strategic interior renovation spanning three and a half floors and completed over two phases. Rather than relocating, the design team reimagined the existing workplace to align with Avalara’s brand ethos of “Less taxing, more relaxing,” creating a balanced environment that blends performance, hospitality, and culture while maximizing the value of the existing footprint.

A generously sized training room seats up to 120 people, supporting onboarding sessions, client programming, and large-scale events. Avalara's signature orange is woven intentionally throughout the space, reinforcing brand identity and energizing the environment. The renovation also introduced a modern, flexible workplace standard featuring open workstations, sit-stand desks, upgraded lighting, refreshed finishes, and refinished concrete floors, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and longevity through adaptive reuse.

By investing in its existing location rather than seeking new space, Avalara preserved a highly valued address while transforming it into a workplace that reflects the company's growth, culture, and national presence, positioning the company for continued success.
