Built in the Iblean upland, in the southern area of the city of Ragusa, this project of the ANM house, tackels the topic of completing a Masseria from the early twentieth century through a system of operations aimed at giving back quality to the entire building complex and its outern spaces of relevance. The project fits into the surrounding agricultural context as a heterogeneous but clearly identifiable element , with a strong characterization of the existing landscape and its natural transformation processes.
The project is realized following three main operations:
1) the external addition of a new building
2) the settlement of the external spaces thanks to the construction of a swimming pool
3) the reuse of a container, an indoor addition.
- The external addition thanks to the demolition of some minor buildings and the consequente reuse of their building potential in other forms, a new volume was created which contains the kitchen and some service rooms for the house. This has a trapezoidal shape and overlooks the countryside, generating new spaces of relationship with the existing buildings and the surrounding landscape;
- the arrangement of the spaces: new artificial geography. The demolition of the two ancillary buildings has freed up a central space between the main buildings and the surrounding walls and has allowed the construction of a podium that houses a swimming pool and a solarium. On this, an old container abandoned in the countryside , was relocated . The container replaces and completes the pre-existing dry stone boundary wall, performing at the same time the functions of a technical room for the systems, equipment storage and pool toilet; - The internal addition: building within the built. A wooden "box" is created inside one the building, and houses the living room, the study and the services, giving an alternative solution to a conventional internal division that would have distorted the space which instead , is strongly characterized by the presence of a large central pillar in hard limestone tapering upwards.
