The new residential building with 21 apartments replaces the former Solis of Switzerland AG factory in Zurich's District 6. Situated within walking distance of Schaffhauserplatz, the site occupies a strategic urban location between the city centre, the Glatt Valley and Zurich Airport. As a compact, street-defining volume, the building acts as a mediator between the surrounding perimeter of linear residential blocks and freestanding apartment buildings.
The architectural concept is based on four interlocking cubic volumes that merge into a compact and highly efficient building with five apartments per floor. By making optimal use of the site's development potential, the project accommodates a diverse mix of apartment types while maintaining a clear architectural identity through the repetition of key spatial and façade elements.
Each apartment is organised around a welcoming entrance with integrated storage and direct, efficient circulation into the living area. The layouts clearly distinguish between private sleeping quarters and the shared living spaces, creating functional and well-balanced homes. High-quality bathrooms and generous south-facing balconies extend the living spaces outdoors and enhance the residential experience with abundant natural light and attractive private outdoor areas.
The restrained architectural language and carefully proportioned volume establish a coherent presence within the neighbourhood while responding sensitively to the scale and character of its urban context.
