This was an interior design project made from a recent reform that we already met when the project was commissioned.
The apartment is located in the historic center of Barcelona, just in the center of the city. It’s a appartment of 60.00m2 with kitchen open to the dining room + living room and a bedroom with bathroom. As it is a building over 100 years old, the architects wanted to preserve everything that reminds us of the longevity of the building. Thus, they “stripped” the walls and ceilings, to give the space more character and restored the original carpentry. The fact of taking the plaster from the ceiling to see the " Volta Catalana" allows us to enjoy a height of almost 4.00m; providing a great sense of spaciousness.
Regarding the interior design project, we had a thread, or an essential starting point: it is the photograph of Silvia Serra that appears in the dining room, which was the first thing we bought for the apartment and what inspired the whole project.
We chose noble materials and without artifice; so we work with linen, wood, bamboo, sisal, aged glass, etc. We also helped with some antique furniture so that the floor had a trace of character and authenticity. We only made a small concession to sophistication: brass; so golden touches appear throughout the project, from the dining room lamp, through the 50's mirror of the bedroom or bathroom accessories. Finally, and to finish giving a bit of romance to the apartment, we made some very tall linen curtains with jute curtains, which give the project that classic and bourgeois point that helps us to sweeten this space.
