This was a renovation of an existing home from the 1950’s. It was a boring white box that was leaking water and had no street presence. We brought the box to life by removing most of the balcony rail and parapet wall on the rood in order to open up the home to the street and the panoramic views of Los Angeles. This house has the main entry in the back, so we created a façade which would direct people’s attention to the right side of the house, and would provide shelter and light along the path to the front door. We chose Ipe wood for the cladding because of it’s color and durability.
