This vacation house in southern Bahia was designed to embody the casualness, informality, and comforts typical of coastal residences, while also introducing a layer of refinement to these qualities. The site’s characteristics heavily influenced the design approach: a flat, corner, and almost perfectly rectangular lot.

To balance openness with privacy, the house was arranged in an L-shape, positioned close to the rear property lines and set away from the two street-facing boundaries. Privacy is ensured by a tall living fence that integrates seamlessly with the natural landscape, while the remaining open rectangular area serves as a lush green leisure zone, anchored by an extensive lawn. At the far end opposite the house sits a pool with an elevated deck.

Within the L-shaped plan, each wing serves a distinct function: the smaller wing houses the social areas opening towards the lawn, while the larger, more enclosed wing accommodates the bedrooms. The construction prominently features extensive use of wood and ceramic tile roofing, which together create the much-desired blend of beachy informality and elegant design.

To enhance the connection between the house, the lawn, and the pool deck, two wooden elements were introduced: an L-shaped deck that traces the boundaries separating the house from the open area, and a pergola that covers the deck and then turns 90 degrees to extend over the lawn and towards the pool area. This combination results in a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Brazilian veranda house.
