3 CIRCULAR STUDIOS
The project foresees the rehabilitation of a small building, composed of a commercial building with basement and 3 studios that are organized on the upper floors.
The building presents an interesting typology on the street, belonging to a complex of 5 houses built simultaneously at the end of the 19th century.
The complex and ambitious renovation exploits the opportunities already present.
A work on the quality of light frees the wall of the rear facade in order to bring life back into this amorphous and uninvested interior of the island.
On the upper floors, the project takes advantage of the high ceilings to propose studios whose mezzanines participate in this slenderness.
The stairwell, central element of the project, has been completely reconfigured. It leads to a common roof terrace overlooking the city.
This project is part of a sustainable approach, both in the choice of natural and robust materials, and in the use of reused materials.
This choice of reuse was pushed to the extreme, and directly adapted to the techniques of the building site: the bottoms of the formwork of the staircase, maintained in place, were carefully cut to serve as new railings, a fireplace cladding rehabilitated as window sills, tiles and marble sills to dress the bathroom, a wrought iron guardrail of 6 meters to finish the terrace, ... It is a work of consequent research and implementation by a contractor convinced and open to new solutions.
Finally, the project is part of a process of socialization of the private real estate stock by putting these studios under the management of a social real estate agency, in order to allow isolated people to continue to live in a changing urban center that is less and less financially accessible for the most vulnerable people.
