The natural and calming beauty of an expansive commercial soy field attracted these clients to create a homestead for their young family.
With the setting secure, Roundabout Studio was tasked with distilling down the classic farmhouse and reimagining it. The result is an open and articulate gathering place for extended family and friends.
This farmhouse can be found at the end of a private drive concealed by a field of Maple trees. A covered front porch spans the entire width of the house’s Social wing with the main entrance announced by two large doors at its centre. Upon entry visitors are greeted with towering white walls that provide a backdrop to a collection of large format canvases and family artifacts. To the left the floor steps down to a sunken living room which sits above a large heated slab of polished concrete. To the right is a central kitchen with a sixteen foot long island for function and entertainment. Directly adjacent and taking full advantage of the views is a dining space that supports the large family farm table this house demands.
When the family wants some space away from the greater social envelope of the house they need only step through the breezeway to the Private wing. A jog at the entry helps to conceal an expansive hallway flanked by three bedrooms and a family den then ends at the master suite. This semi-transparent retreat permits the clients to begin and end their day amongst the serenity of the soy fields that drew them to this site in the first place.
