This Indian-inspired house design with a central courtyard is a fusion of contemporary and traditional architecture. The house is set upon a plot area of 600 square yards and is designed for a single family.

The client had a very specific requirement of 4 bedrooms and 1 guest room and wanted the house to be planned according to the sun path. The architect has responded to these requirements by designing a house in two axes, horizontal and vertical, with a focus on cross ventilation and connecting all vertical spaces with each other.

The house revolves around a central courtyard, which is the central core of the house and is connected to all the areas of the house. On the ground floor, semi-private areas are placed, such as a big terrace garden, pooja room, kitchen, and dining area. On the first floor, three bedrooms and a lounge area are placed, and on the second floor, all the recreational spaces, such as a gym and home theatre, are placed. A big terrace garden has also been designed on the second floor, which connects the outdoor spaces at different levels.

The material palette is completely Indian, with a focus on Jaisalmer stone and Indian Kharappa flooring. A very subtle color palette has been used throughout the house. The massing of the house has been done in the form of stepped gardens, again inspired by the stepped farming in India. Different blocks have been added at different levels, and the elevations are derived from the concept of form follows function. A cantilevered box on the first floor, which is a study area and placed very secluded from the rest of the house, maintains the sanctity of the space.

The material palette for the facade is also completely Indian, with the use of bamboo, slate stones, and solid teak wood. A cement texture paint has been used in the study area.

A detailed study has been done to understand the essence of real India. A team of artists and furniture designers has assisted the architect in creating a house that is truly Indian. A 28-foot-long painting depicting Lord Krishna is placed in the central courtyard, and a skylight has been placed just over it to enhance the textures and colors. Every furniture in the house is custom-designed and inspired by the Indian context. Overall, this house is a beautiful example of how contemporary and traditional architecture can be fused together to create a unique and stylish space
