Nestled in the vibrant city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, our latest interior design project is a 2000 sq.ft. (1200 sq.ft. internal & 800 sq.ft. external) a makeup studio that redefines conventional salon design executed within 4 months. Housed in a 33-year-old structure with three sides open to the outdoors, the project posed significant spatial challenges. Our clients envisioned a space that defied conventional makeup studio aesthetics, desiring a unique, modern, and minimalist environment.
Embracing the challenges, our design team at FH Studio, ingeniously utilized the outdoor areas for temporary spatial movements, such as photo shoots and waiting areas, maximizing the available space efficiently. The clients' vision allowed us to develop a gentle and soft palette that exuded freshness and chic sophistication. The interior zoning was thoughtfully designed to include a private office for the client, offering a space for privacy and occasional consultations. The studio features a well-zoned layout seamlessly integrated well-decorated indoor and outdoor photo-shoot areas with essential salon spaces, creating a visually distinctive and functional makeup studio that stands apart from the traditional Indian elemental studios.
The design process began with meticulous spatial planning aligned with the client's vision for a modern, minimalist makeup studio. On-site measurements ensured precise furniture layout. Custom flooring and golden shade tests, alongside monochromatic wall samples, created a cohesive palette. To optimize space, we created convertible areas using a sliding glass partition, seamlessly transforming an office into a bridal shoot space. 3D renders visualized the design for the client. Frequent site visits and 1:1 drawings ensured fabrication accuracy. Technical 3D models guided installation, and constant coordination ensured flawless execution. With this strategic structure we fashioned a chic, functional studio fulfilling the client’s desires.
To create a seamless flow within the makeup studio, we incorporated a harmonious palette, geometry, and materials. Rectilinear surfaces were unified with seamless micro-concrete flooring, achieving the desired cohesive look. Cane elements enhance the colour palette, while satin enamel panels add textured layer to the space. For practicality, we used easy-to-clean laminates on all horizontal surfaces, protecting against stains from beauty products. The design employs a limited material palette—satin paint, laminate, and mild steel ensuring the space is low-maintenance, stain-free, and easy to clean, perfectly balancing aesthetics with functionality.
The porch of the makeup studio sets a captivating tone from the moment one arrives. An experiential semi-circular ceiling features sleek golden rods that guide the eye towards cylindrical lights, creating a welcoming passage. Alongside, the long wall showcases a cohesive abstract geometric motifs inspired by traditional Indian bridal elements like bindis and bangles. Inside the wooden ceiling-covered porch, an inviting swing hangs amidst exotic plants, with bamboo providing a natural backdrop. This distinctive space serves dual purposes as a serene waiting area and an outdoor bridal shoot spot, blending functionality with the studio's aesthetic allure.
Upon entering through a long, semi-circular top door, visitors are welcomed into a spacious reception area that serves as a waiting and hairdressing zone. The reception wall features folded, curvilinear cladding with golden accents, harmonizing with the curated reception table. Soft curves blend seamlessly with a beige palette, enriched by warm wooden inserts and highlighted with golden elements. Designer cane lights complement the cane inserts in the furniture, creating a cohesive aesthetic.
The focal point of the reception is a striking art piece depicting a bride with abstract waves and a dot, symbolizing femininity and strength. Crafted from HDF layers and finished in satin enamel, the artwork evokes the essence of traditional adornment in orange dot being the bindi. This serene ambiance offers brides a tranquil environment for their makeup sessions, combining subtle elegance with meticulous attention to detail.
At the heart of the makeup studio lies its ergonomic design, meticulously tailored to meet the demands of the makeup artist. Extensive planning ensured optimal lighting to eliminate shadows and ample space around the chair for free movement. The table's height and depth were carefully calibrated for comfort during extended sessions. A spacious wardrobe, finely crafted in cane provides both functionality and a subtle ambiance, enhancing the studio's expansive feel while offering ample storage.
A seamlessly integrated mirror extends the perception of space, while a cohesive palette harmonizes with the overall materials and colours, ensuring a unified and inviting environment for creative expression. The changing room and shampoo area are enveloped in mirrors with golden accents, enhancing a glamorous and royal ambiance. Curated materials amplify the space, creating an expansive and luxurious feel. Thoughtfully assembled furniture and furnishings ensure both functionality and aesthetic appeal, enriching the overall experience of the makeup studio.
In designing the bridal makeup studio, team at FH studio aimed for openness by eliminating partitions where feasible, focusing on the optimum circulation of the spaces and seamless connectivity. The colour scheme, inspired by bridal elements like the bindi, features subtle curves and tones that complement bright bridal hues. With a soothing palette of beiges, browns, and tangerines, accented by gold, the studio offers a visually comforting and an experiential environment for brides preparing for their special day.
