Kazakhstan, a former region of Soviet Union, is nowadays a booming economy which allows the growth of the construction sector as well as the modern architecture. Knowing new concepts of dwellings, due to the modernization of the architecture, Astana wants to be seen as the center of the “modern architecture”.

According to this demand, the proposal presented to Astana, Capital of Kazakhstan, by Saraiva + Associados has three different approaches for the same site. This site where is destined to be a “Mixed Use Development” is localized in the main axis of Astana in the economical and political center.

The conceptual approach adapted to this proposal is based in the same DNA with different integration in the site. This complex will be based in an area of construction of 65.000 sqm and distributed across 40 storeys. In this Mixed Use Complex the citizens of Astana will be able to use a five-star hotel, Elite apartments, a Conference Centre, a Gymnasium, a SPA, VIP Cinemas, Restaurants and a Shopping Center with 15.000 sqm. The total area of construction, with the integration of 3-storeys of parking lot, will be about 99.000 sqm.

Proposal A

The first proposal is constituted by one tower based in a shopping center in the building’s lobby. According to this proposal this site will be composed by a complex with a shopping center, five-star hotel and many other commercial spaces.

Proposal B

The second proposal is constituted by two equal towers built above a lobby which contains a commercial space. This proposal is thought under one guideline: balance. This balance was achieved due to the relationship among those two towers and its lobby, the shopping center.

Proposal C

Based in the interaction between Urban/Natural this proposal is intended to have a perfect integration in the site. Inspired by the snow and ice, this proposal, is also based above a commercial space but it is composed by one tower.
