Aurehøjs new musicbuilding is an addition of modernmusicfacilities to Aurehøj Gymnasium. The new musicbuilding is located in an angularmovementbetween the existingschool and the former principal housing. The movementemphasizes the building’scontext and opens up the schoolyard. To ensure a scaledadjustment of the new building, and also cover a minimum of outdoorarea, the building is dividedinto the functions of twoconnectedbuildingstructures, the cube and the underground parterrebuilding. This creates a sheltered patio connected to the music hall in the parterrebuilding. The musichall's facade canbefolded to the side and beused as a covered stage where the stair element is included as a grandstand. On top of the parterrebuilding, a raisedsunterrace is alsoincluded as a new outdoorarea in the schoolcomplex. The cube's location concludes the existingschoolbuildingalong the Skolevej, and connects to the principal housing. The cube and the existingschool is connected by a transparent covered walkway. AurehøjGymnasium’s new musicbuildingconsists of teaching and rehearsalroomsaround a staircase with various room sizes and geomteriesadapted to the school'sneed to accomodatebothacoustic and electricallyamplifiedmusiclessons. The building is designed as a "box in boxconstruction" where the primarystructural parts arekeptfree from the boxstructure, ensuringeffectivesoundproofing. Angled large windows, partitions and adding heavy curtainsareused as sound-regulating elements for achievinghighacousticquality. The cubefeatures a brightplastered facade with window and doorsections in oak. The Parterrebuilding facades, terraces and patios arecovered with oak. Internal and externalstairs and walkwayaremade of galvanizedsteelgrating.
