If you're worried about climate change and want to live more sustainably, here is an opportunity to do something about it: by purchasing The Recyclable House, you'll show there's a market desire for genuinely sustainable solutions to housing.
The brainchild of an engineer turned designer-builder who is passionate about sustainable design, The Recyclable House is the culmination of hundreds, if not thousands of hours of research and development. The question designer and builder, Quentin Irvine wanted to answer? Can we create a home that's truly sustainable, both now and into the future? What would that look like? The result is a home that's not just energy efficient, but one that is constructed from hard-wearing and enduring materials which, at the end of their lifecycle, can be recycled or reused. It's the cradle-to-cradle design process applied to an entire house and addresses the systemic problem of waste in the construction industry.
The construction of the home involved avoiding the use of glues and instead fixing with screws or nails which allow for easy disassembly. All building materials are either biologically recyclable (like timber) or technologically recyclable (such as steel). Where paints glues and sealants are used, they are natural and biodegradable in all but a few cases.

This adds up to not just a recyclable building, but a healthy indoor environment where air quality is not compromised by volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The house is also designed around passive solar design principles which means it's warmer in winter and cooler in summer, reducing the need for auxiliary heating and cooling. For the environmentally conscious, it's a self-contained package, ready to move into. The only thing you might want to add is a renewable energy system with wind being a viable option in order to keep things recyclable.

The Recyclable House is also conveniently located just a short walk or ride to the Beaufort train station, where it's a commutable sub-two hour trip to the center of Melbourne. With the rise of work-from-home arrangements and a desire for a more affordable, relaxed lifestyle, this is the perfect opportunity for a tree change.
The star of numerous Sustainable House Days and proud recipient of national and international recognition for its innovative sustainable design, The Recyclable House is even included as a case study in the Australian Government's soon to be released 6th Edition of Your Home. Now, this beacon of sustainable design can be yours to own!

Quentin explains, purchasing The Recycled House is like buying a Rolex watch, it's an asset that can be passed down the generations and will hold its value over time because not only is it built to last, each component retains value and can be sold for recycling or reuse in the future. Materials are not consumed in its manufacture; they are invested in its manufacture.

Quentin and his family are currently working on Recyclable House 2.0 and plans to open-source the techniques and methodologies behind The Recyclable House method, so that everyone has access to the ideas that will reshape the way we build homes and create a sustainable future. The best part is, proceeds from the sale are going towards the next iteration of The Recyclable House, so the purchaser can have the satisfaction of knowing they're keeping The Recyclable House movement strong!
