Tria was part of this project even before the purchase of the property – clients approached the office to assess whether it would be a good purchase. It is very advantageous for both parties – client and architecture – when this partnership begins at this definition stage, as this way the whole process tends to be more assertive. The young couple, with a young son, were very open to proposals, but at the same time they knew exactly what they wanted.

The choice of an old apartment, with rooms and large windows, helps to bring about more changes and makes them more meaningful. An apartment originally with 3 bedrooms, one suite and two bedrooms that share a bathroom, but without a toilet no longer made sense for the family that would give the apartment a new use. Therefore, it was possible to demolish the third bedroom and fully integrate it into the living room, bringing more amplitude and natural light to the environment. In the small corridor that gave access to this demolished room, a toilet was created. And the bathroom, which used to be two bedrooms, had its door changed, turning it into a suite.

The apartment, which measures 130m², now has 100% use of its environments, without corridors, with plenty of natural light and ventilation and a beautiful view of the park.

The two bathrooms were redesigned in order to do away with the bidets and had their shower stalls considerably enlarged, making bath time much more pleasant.

In doubt whether or not they should open the kitchen, the young couple opted for both options, which brought a lot of coziness and bossa to the room – a sliding panel made of natural wood veneer.

Another highlight is the bookcase with illuminated shelves that occupies the entire wall of the room in gray lacquer with the most robust shelves and designed doors – a customer request.

The old service room gained double use – a succinct guest room but also a very functional office with privacy so that they can work from home even with their young son there.

The choice of materials was very careful to impart lightness but at the same time sophistication to the environments. The idea was to work with neutral bases and have specific color points so as to converse with the paintings above the sofa – the clients’ desire since the beginning of the project. Only one floor was used in the social area and it is also present on the kitchen bench. As for the kitchen wall, we opted for a slightly creased and tilted porcelain tile to give it a certain rhythm.

The entire project and work process took place during the pandemic years, which made it difficult for the delivery of materials, oscillation in the values of materials and labor and restriction of workload of service providers, however, there were no big surprises or delays during the whole process and the client today feels fulfilled living in the new custom-made apartment, just the way they dreamed!
