BAR GIAN PAOLO E MARCO

Iconic light for an expressive interior

For the lighting of the GPeM "Gian Paolo e Marco" bar on the ground floor of the EmiLu boutique hotel in the heart of Stuttgart, which opens in 2021, the choice fell on an iconic light - in keeping with the bar's expressive interior, which is inspired by the design of the legendary Memphis Group around Ettore Sottsass.

With white and black marble, a red cone and cobalt-blue wall, ceiling and floor surfaces, the furnishings in the GPeM rely on intense contrasts. These are intensified by indirect lighting from joints, backlit surfaces and the selected accent light. The staging of the place reaches its climax in the sanitary rooms, jokingly also called the "pink hell": The selected lighting traces the cubature of the room by following the edges of the walls and mirrors. This causes a variety of light reflections and mirroring on the tiles, which leads to a deliberately created spatial irritation for the visitors. A new selfie hotspot has been created that is unparalleled - at least in Stuttgart.
