Originally planned to be a rental, this house had to be compact, while providing all the necessary comfort for pleasant days at the beach.

The project is divided into two blocks: in front, the more open, integrated living spaces: living room, kitchen and terrace. Then, in a more reserved setup, the three bedrooms. As with the uses divided in two blocks, the same is true of the structure of the house: in the social area the roof is supported by a wooden structure, apparent throughout the space. In the sleeping quarters, it sits on the structural masonry, ensuring a more reserved space, in addition to a more economical construction.

The goal was to use few materials and light colors, honoring the tranquility of the beach. The burnt cement floor, the wood on the ceiling and structures, as well as the rough white paint give the house a stripped-down air of a summer home without losing its charm.

What was the brief?

A 140 m² compact rental house with an economical construction, but charming and inviting, it should stand out on the rental websites.

What were the key challenges?

Our challenge was to fit the entire program (living, dining, three bedrooms, powder room, kitchen, grill and laundry room) in a comfortable way on 140 m². In addition, the budget was restricted.

What were the solutions?

The layout determined for the house has a very simple solution: kitchen and grill in the front, living room and toilet in the center and the three bedrooms in the back. We opted for most of the social area to be on a covered terrace, the rest of the spaces facing it. The glass fixtures bring a sense of openness, increasing the perception of spaces.

The kitchen, with a square plan, had two of its walls made of glass. The idea was to surround it with vegetation and extend its use onto the covered terrace, where the barbecue grill and the dining table are. In front of the terrace, a deck surrounded by tropical plants was designed to accommodate the heated spa while creating a stand in the sun.

The living room works as a transition from the social area to the intimate area. Its high ceilings, along with the white brick wall and the fluffy sofa, bring warmth.

The three bedrooms also adopted the light tones of the house. Their white wood closets, white furniture and burnt cement floor make space for colorful highlights in the decorative items: pillows, blankets and plants bring charm, without losing the idea of ​​neutrality. And, since the house was designed from the beginning for Airbnb, all types of setups in the bedrooms were imagined: bunk beds, double beds, single beds with pull out beds.
