House is situated on a hill on the west Coast of Ireland. Rather than demolishing an existing house on site, which was in poor condition, the proposal engages with the vernacular typology by refurbishing the main volume of the existing house and creating a second volume that contains all bedroom accommodation.
The two houses are connected on the ground floor by a green roof that envelopes the main service and dining spaces and a terrace that performs as an external room overlooking the sea. The relationship between discrete volumes is intended to create a distinct silhouette on the horizon, which is at the same time embedded in the landscape by the manipulation of the ground roofscape.
