A loving restoration of a heritage house, originally built for the local Blunt Boatbuilders family. The alterations included a new 2 storey contemporary living room and parent retreat to the rear of the property to provide a privacy barrier to neighbouring properties and highly desired Northern orientation . The new and old sections of the house circle around a central courtyard and plunge pool that provides a centrepiece for modern family living.
The house was designed around an active family - an outdoor shower and mud room and kayak store for returning from the Bay. A heated plunge pool for year-round enjoyment. Internal spaces that open up and shut down, dependant on use - that all connect the family back to the central courtyard.
Warm, elegant, durable materials and finishes are used internally and externally. External timber cladding is coated with a finish that allows it to weather evenly, white bricks and travertine paving that patinas over time will ensure a home that only looks better with age. Internal finishes are kept simple, elegant and pure - timber, stone and polished concrete.
What has resulted is a calm joyous home that will adapt and age with it's growing family.
