Bread&Walk is a small bakery café located beside Yangjaecheon Park in Seoul.
Inspired by the phrase “Everyday We Walk. Everyday We Bake.”, the space was conceived from a simple scene: someone briefly pausing during a walk, picking up bread in one hand, and returning to the path. Rather than a destination people intentionally seek out, it is a small moment of pause naturally placed along everyday paths.
Originally completed two years ago, the project organizes the bakery kitchen in the basement and the retail space on the ground floor. A recent expansion introduced a second floor, creating a place where visitors can stay for longer periods. While the program is vertically divided, the spatial experience is conceived as continuous. Warmth generated in the basement rises through the ground floor and extends into the seating space above, forming a gentle vertical sequence.
The bakery is designed to operate almost as part of the surrounding landscape. On the second floor, the bakery area and staff area are planned as semi-open spaces that visually connect to the Yangjaecheon trail through large windows. Even while indoors, visitors remain visually connected to the movement of the park outside. The project does not stand apart as a conventional commercial space but instead is positioned within the spatial flow of the park.
Seating is arranged so that visitors’ lines of sight do not directly confront one another, with careful adjustments to the direction and height of the tables. Some seats look out toward the park, while others allow small groups to gather in circular arrangements, and bench seating invites visitors to perch casually and enjoy their bread. These scenes begin to resemble the everyday landscape of the park. In spring, the seating is arranged so that cherry blossoms can gently extend deep into the interior through the windows, adding a subtle gesture that allows visitors to share in the changing season.
Bread&Walk is a place where you can pause for a moment or drop by every day with ease. Like a walk, it is meant to be light, familiar, and gently woven into everyday life.
