Bridge House: Revitalizing a Neglected Space

Architects Magnus as Architects

For years, a prime piece of land sat unused, held back by an obstructive utility easement that divided the sloping property with unbuildable land down the middle. Instead of seeing this as a setback, we viewed it as a creative challenge—a three-dimensional puzzle to solve.

Inspired by the natural shape of the land, we envisioned the site as an urban ravine waiting to be revealed. We designed the house to maximize the buildable area of the property, incorporating two separate buildings that tightly follow the contours of the easement. A metal grate bridge floats above the landscape, connecting the two buildings. This bridge has become a focal point, providing outdoor living space that floats above the transformed ravine.
