BLP undertook a complete refurbishment of the old Police Station building at 81-83 Bull Street, Bendigo, purpose built in the 1980s, into a Department of Justice Regional Office and Justice Service Centre, incorporating an auxiliary courtroom.
The Bull Street site is situated on Rosalind Park and backs onto the southern bank of the Bendigo Creek. The nineteenth century-built Bendigo Law Courts adjoin the building, with a laneway separating the two.
Bull Street is located in the centre of Bendigo, intersecting Pall Mall several hundred metres east of the iconic Alexandra Fountain. The majority of works occurred within the two storey building, designed and built to align with the historic court precinct and the heritage overlay on the site. The Justice Service Centre consolidates Department of Justice services, which were previously provided from several dispersed locations, into the one location. These services include Community Correctional Services, Sheriff’s Operations, Births Deaths and Marriages, Consumer Affairs Victoria, and the Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee. The historic Bendigo Court House remained fully operational throughout the refurbishment of the Bull Street site.
