When an engineer decided he needed more space to host his family at his Finnish lakeside property, he contacted Studio Kamppari to design a guest cabin with places to gather and retreat. Cabin K offers visitors an inside/outside space with panoramic views.

Respecting the delicate landscape, the cabin is built on post foundations with materials lifted over the delicate landscape by crane. The site is located on top of a narrow granite ridge with only a minimal area available for construction.

Oversized windows frame impressive views to the north and south. A whimsical loft full of filtered light feels like a tree house; a perfect place to hide and read a book.

The project was completed with a limited budget using locally sourced materials and methods. Pine log walls are the structure and the interior finish. On the exterior, vertical wood screening treated with iron oxide protects the logs from the harsh elements.
