An essential step in the evolution of Cahill Park’s development as a major recreational destination for the Wolli Creek area. The new Café and amenities block draws its form and materiality from a number of challenging site conditions. The robust yet flowing spine of the building respects the existing tree line while providing physical, visual and aural refuge for café and park users from the nearby Princes Highway.

The cocoon-like built form opens up on its river aspect, allowing users to take advantage of the Cooks River vista, transporting them to a verdant urban oasis. The café also allows patrons to engage with the popular existing playground, allowing optimal usability and casual surveillance of the park. Anchored to the site by a single desire line running from the main park entry points right through to the water’s edge, visitors are led through the building, encouraging activation of the public domain.

The new Café and amenities facility serve as a key destination within the wider locality and represent a gateway to the park and beyond.
