Carvalho House

The Carvalho House is based on a very objective investigation into the organization of a weekend house program on a large, flat plot of land facing a lake. Given such a special condition, the vast majority of spaces are made up of large glass panes, as in classic modernist houses, connecting internal and external spaces.

The design is very synthetic: two parallel slabs of exposed concrete (one on the floor and one on the roof) enclose the glazed areas. Additionally, some sections are treated in a more opaque way, given their internal program, and are carefully inserted between the two slabs, angled in relation to the Cartesian system of the general plan of the house and coated with copper in oxidized strips. Other elements that feature extensively in the architecture are the MLC wooden brises, which provide both sunlight control, where necessary, and privacy in relation to the outside area. The office is responsible for everything from architectural design to interior details.

The house is very well connected to the gardens, designed by landscaper Alex Hanazaki. The flooring is very impressive, with concrete slabs of different shapes and sizes, as well as lush vegetation made up of pata-de-vaca (Brazilian orchid tree), jabuticaba (Brazilian grapetree) trees and other species.

The property also has an infinity edge pool that faces the lake and a small, fully glazed annex pavilion that houses gym and sauna and is connected to the pool.
The choice of furniture mixes the contemporary with design classics, such as the Fardos armchair by Dpot, pieces by Zalszupin and others signed by FGMF, like the special version of the Paliteiro table.
This is a pure summer house, in which all the architecture converges towards conviviality and relaxation for the users.
