Casa Dafne is on a corner plot between Carvoeiro and Ferragudo, on the Algarve coast.

It is on a gentle south-facing slope, with views stretching towards the horizon, where the sea and sky meet. The sea reaches the indented cliffs, which become golden due to the intensity of this Mediterranean light. 

It is built in an already developed area, and the planning regulations were the basis for the design of this single-storey house.

The size, shape of the plot, and the land’s slight unevenness also allow for the establishment of formal connections, views and physical comfort, in a low-density area where green areas have an even greater importance.

The desire for an image and an architectural identity are also present in the origin of the design of the house and in the way it will be shaped by its inhabitants and time.

Casa Dafne is white and horizontal, devoid of any decoration, with a contemporary design.  But it has regional touches, clearly evident in the roof terrace and the various patios, set into a dominant volume. The patios are outdoor spaces, of transition, with shaded corners, giving the house a lightness accentuated by the glass fronts and extremely elegant window frames.

This understated delineation between the interior and exterior encourages the appreciation of the landscaped areas and the delights of a mild climate. The house is protected from the north by walls with small windows that filter the light or frame the interesting views. The generous curve very subtly introduces the entrance.  Theentrance is discreet but visible, as it is at the end of a pleasant, narrow path that crosses the garden.

The more modest bedrooms face the south and east. The living area is to the west, protected by the large, wide canopy, which faces the pool and surrounding area. And so the house is both interior and exterior, shade and light, privacy and views, built with the scent of that Mediterranean light. It is a perfect balance of architecture and nature.
