This single-family housing project is part of a renovation process and transformation of an existing house in a low-density residential area in the Vitacura commune. On a plot of approximately 400 square meters, the existing house was almost unrecognizable due to poorly executed and extensive expansions.
The strategy for the intervention of the existing structure involved minimal changes to the interior layout, with precise expansions and demolitions to achieve greater continuity in the social spaces on the first floor and to enhance natural light and habitability conditions on the second floor, where the bedrooms are located. Additionally, the strategy for the exterior expression aimed to unify the compact two-story volume using handmade brick throughout its expressive and tectonic dimensions.
The handmade brick was transformed into a cladding material that improved thermal insulation, especially on the previously lightweight constructed second floor. The cubic volume was entirely covered, giving the existing house a new unified expression devoid of the different patches from its historical evolution and various owners.
Taking advantage of the constructive versatility of handmade brick, lattices and expressive textures were incorporated into different facades to serve functions related to solar control, privacy, and relief accent
