The project to design this refuge for surfers -in an immediate area of La Saladita beach- is a unique case arising from the exchange of ideas, the back and forth of friendly conversations, the exploration of creative synchronicities and the open discussion of the conceptual differences between client and architect. Casa Nu (from the French “nous”, we, personal pronoun) materializes and strengthens a friendship of years and now offers a different and innovative experience for those who want a quiet refuge after enjoying the waves in this part of the Mexican Pacific.
The voluminous layout of this corner lot was obtained -a bit like that lucky someone who gets the best waves on the surf board- aiming to preserve the area with large mango trees that give cool shade over the lushness of the land and pleasant privacy between neighbors.
The architectural plan came up with unconventional solutions, to manage to integrate essential areas of the house in the surrounding exterior areas of the main property: laundry, storage, guest bathroom, the utilities room, a functional rack for surfboards, a warehouse to lock them up and private outdoor showers with an infinite blue-sky view. This set of designated spaces is arranged in a way that it also provides a strong perimeter of protection for the residence.
Inside the house, a two-story layout was proposed. On the top floor, a built-in loft occupying a King Size bed with a modular wardrobe, while on the ground floor lives the kitchen, living room and a parallel two-part bathroom separating the toilet from the shower, allowing spaces of flexible use for when the renter hosts guests.
The goal was to research and implement the best materials used in finishes that in its lifespan would transform organically, achieving natural patinas and refined aging. The exposed concrete with slat formwork highlights the strength of the walls, as does the polished concrete with brass joints on the floor, the baked pinewood on doors and windows, and various pre-oxidized and varnished metallic elements.
All the details taken to finish the space, have been done without compromising the design; feeling the spaciousness and sense of simplicity the piece itself emanates, the wiring and hidden service facilities contribute to achieving a unique experience of luxury and comfort.
Casa NU has all the essentials, to provide rest and peace, after a surf session.
