Casa sull'altopiano ibleo

The house, a pure, stereotomic volume, tends to lock over surrounding farmlands in order to safeguard inside itself the courtyard, a closer area where the main home spaces open up and interact. The courtyard holds volumes which make it a real large open-air room, in a domestic perspective.

During the day, sunshine and shadows cross and turn on this area, which opens outwards at two points: at the glimpse of the rural landscape of Val di Noto and, with a smaller opening, at the lot access point.

The sliding metal frames, arranged in the two courtyard openings, play an important role of protection without preventing the view.

Like the historical courtyard farm, typical of the Monti Iblei area, the house satisfies timeless needs, giving protection from surrounding areas but, at the same time, allowing a perceptive relationship with these ones.

So, the house is considered as a means of protection, but able to establish and enhance relationships at different levels at once.
