Casarosa

A house in the city center but dark, fragmented and small! Those were the initial feelings of this adventure. We had to change this situation completely and we had to turn its 68 sq into a spacious and light house that could accommodate the functional programme required. Therefore, we removed the walls between the inside patio and the main street, so they faced each other; hence, we got a superb cross ventilation and the space we got in every part of the house will go through the two powerful spotlights of sunlight that is the patio and the windows of the façade. This area is organized around a central detached module, which houses the toilets, the air conditioning and heating and the kitchen table and it also distributes all the rooms of the house, giving the house a distinguished personality. A pair of functional bands is placed in two of the perimeter sides of the house, encircling and supporting the central module. The first one goes along the façade of the patio, arranging in a linear space the day activities like the kitchen-laundry-washbasin-shower-clothes line - area of facilities bench. The second one extends along the dividing wall, housing lengthwise the rest activities, such as storage-dressing room-shoe cabinet-area of facilities. The area of facilities works as a channel between day and night bands connecting one to the other. We remove the false ceilings so we make the most of a height of 2,82 sq, we give more space to the rooms, and we uncover the building metal structure, that we keep as it was originally, with the characteristic yellow colour given by the zinc protection that was used in the past with the metallic cross section. The lighting is integrated in a discreet way on the upper side of the functional bands and the central module, so the three pieces which are part of the programme of each room are emphasized and the height and the spaciousness of the house are promoted. The chosen materials are of light colours so they increase the sense of space in the house, which is only coloured by the tonality of the central module made of oriented standard board, which unifies every room shaping the house as an open space.
