The project addresses the restoration of a historic residential complex in Pistoia, in the locality of Case Soldi, redefining an identity compromised by incongruous later additions. The intervention operates through subtraction: removing obsolete accretions, reorganizing the openings, and introducing a brick-red plinth at ground-floor level, seeking formal harmony in the façades, grounding the building to the site, and enhancing its dialogue with the surrounding rural landscape.

Inside, the project explores spatial fluidity through the themes of threshold and visual perception, adopting perforated sheet metal as a unifying element. This metallic skin articulates and orders the space: within the internal staircase it acts as a luminous device that, by filtering light, shifts from solid surface to transparency depending on the observer’s viewpoint; in the sleeping area it becomes a headboard element, interacting with light through subtle plays of transparency.

On the first floor, at the most panoramic point of the building, the living area is established as the focal core of domestic life.

The existing small openings are reinterpreted and transformed into large openings overlooking a new projecting balcony. Here, the material boundary dissolves: thanks to the perforated balustrade, the hilly landscape penetrates the domestic space without opaque filters, becoming itself a material component of the architectural project.
