Cecilia Brunson Projects occupies a reimagined industrial building in Bermondsey, London, designed to accommodate both art exhibitions and research. The gallery’s transformation focuses on creating a light-filled space while respecting the site’s raw architectural history. 

By retaining much of the original structure, including the exposed concrete ceilings and walls, the design minimizes the need for new materials, making a subtle contribution to reducing its environmental footprint. The introduction of a large glass skylight floods the space with natural light, reducing dependence on artificial illumination. This intervention enhances the gallery’s openness, offering a dynamic environment for the display of Latin American art. 

The design features neutral surfaces and integrated joinery, providing a flexible backdrop that adapts to the varied scale and context of the artwork. The exposed concrete ceilings maintain the industrial aesthetic of the original building, while a thoughtful spatial arrangement allows the gallery to function as both a display space and a venue for scholarly engagement. 

By blending contemporary design with the building’s industrial roots, the project elevates the gallery’s ability to showcase art in an environment that is both inspiring and respectful of the site’s history.
