The main goal of the project  was to use materiali esistenti (existing materials), such as wood, and reimagine them through a modern lens. The wood itself comes from Magnifica Comunità—an inspiring project rooted in the region’s rich traditions. It seeks to revitalize and celebrate the heritage of mountain living while integrating modern design principles that enhance both functionality and sustainability.

At the heart of this project is the careful preservation of the area’s historic buildings—stone houses, wooden cabins, and other local structures—by reusing existing materials whenever possible. This commitment to local craftsmanship ensures that the cultural and architectural heritage is maintained, while subtle modern interventions introduce a sense of comfort and style.

Building consciously and sustainably.

The structure was built by just two workers, in a slow and deliberate manner, reflecting a sustainable approach to construction. This process allowed us to appreciate the true timing and care needed to build—something we often forget in the rush of modern life, says Luca Donazzolo. It wasn’t just about the physical act of building, but also about honoring the natural rhythms of the environment. By working at a measured pace, the team could ensure that every decision was intentional and aligned with the principles of sustainability.

The house is surrounded by nature, coexisting harmoniously with its breathtaking landscape. The design prioritizes open spaces and an abundance of natural light, with a seamless flow between the interior and exterior. This integration fosters a deeper connection between the residents, the building, and the surrounding environment. The architecture doesn’t compete with the mountains—it enhances the experience of being immersed in nature. Visitors and residents alike are invited to truly engage with the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, creating a living space where nature and design are in perfect harmony.
