CHOM CHOM

ChomChom begins with a view of human connection as something that may loosen but does not easily break, seeing the Korean knot as ‘a relationship of thread that ties and unties the moments of meeting and parting.’ Thread and knot are not simply a technique of binding; they are a Korean way of understanding people. ChomChom takes this perspective and unfolds it through the spirit of Korean hospitality. Through the imagery of thread and knot, it reinterprets the act of weaving a relationship, expanding it into an emotional experience. Just as one once tied a knot while thinking of someone, threading it strand by strand to hold a feeling within, the act of ‘weaving’ itself becomes the brand’s core value, carrying a consistent sensibility throughout the space, brand identity, and packaging. It becomes an experience of conveying feeling, a language that keeps relationships alive within the rhythms of everyday life.

ChomChom gives this language concrete form through the design concept of ‘jeongpyo (情表).’ Jeongpyo is a means of making ‘care for another person’ visible through form and scene, rooted in the tradition of inscribing devotion and wishing for another’s well-being. In the spirit of preparing and offering something with another person’s happiness in mind, this attitude is recast within a contemporary sensibility, creating moments of experience in which sincerity and feeling are fully conveyed.

In the past, a door was more than an entrance: it was the boundary of a home and a symbol of its character. ChomChom reinterprets the door’s traditional significance as a brand narrative, so that the story begins the moment one steps inside. The door handle and bronze signage at the entrance extend the logo’s form, sharing an iconographic kinship with the traditional symbol of ‘daegil’ (大吉), great fortune. Carrying the meaning of traditional auspicious patterns, these elements offer visitors a warm greeting, wishing them heartfelt connections and good fortune.

The first space one enters after passing through the door feels like a room where the care poured into each product has been neatly gathered into the lacquered box. The reception ahead is a visualization of welcome: peonies, lotus flowers, bleeding heart, and pine, embroidered stitch by careful stitch onto ramie cloth. Light that seeps across the ceiling and walls, and the composed quality of the scene, reveal the tidy sincerity held within that box, drawing visitors gradually into ChomChom’s world. A lit wall carrying a distinctly Korean narrative features textile patterned with auspicious figures, tiger, tortoise, carp, and crane, reinforcing the identity of the space and delivering a sensibility that is at once familiar and new.

The second space that follows creates a sequence of an entirely different order. It extends in a way that makes it difficult to sense a beginning or an end, giving the impression of having entered another dimension altogether. Silver mirrors face one another, producing a scene of endless mutual reflection. Through this, the karmic, cyclical value of connection, perpetually revolving and renewing, is realized as an infinite sense of space. The orderly pattern formed by interlocking aluminum profiles creates a refined rhythm that evokes the geometry of Korean traditional motifs. The cord tied across the metal frame serves as shelving and visually completes the brand’s central story of ‘thread and knot.

Within this apparently boundless space, the window that connects to the kitchen becomes a device that quietly reveals how the products come to be. Movement from the making process is gently revealed through the glass, naturally conveying the care it contains. This scene holds within the space what ChomChom describes as ‘the experience of conveying feeling.’ Finally, it distills the brand’s story of weaving and sustaining relationships into a single, lingering sensory impression.

All the scenes ChomChom has built converge on a single point: the ‘completion of hospitality,’ in which invisible feeling is carefully woven together and placed in someone’s hands. The light and texture that fill the space, the act and experience of choosing a jeongpyo, quietly return one’s attention to the precious connections that the pace of daily life tends to obscure. The journey ChomChom proposes becomes an experience of restoring a forgotten sentence of the heart and recovering the warmth of relationships.
